The purpose of this article is to provide information regarding the assignment of School Districts to Employees within isolved to allow for Local Tax calculations.

School district taxes are local levies used to fund public education operations, teacher pay, building upkeep, and school debt. Most states fund these levies via property taxes; however, three states fund these via local earned income taxes: Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.  The applicable School District is recorded on the EE's Tax Information Screen in the Taxable School District field. Employee Management / Employee Pay / Tax Information

In many instances isolved is able to populate the School District field using the EE's resident address; however, there are situations where isolved cannot automatically populate this field due to multiple overlapping jurisdictions, jurisdictional interactions, and other tax-specific factors.

For employees working in states where a School District Code may be required, we recommend periodically reviewing your employee records to ensure the appropriate code is populated.

To review School District Codes:

  1. Navigate to Reporting > Client Reports > Employee Profile (As of Date).
  2. Enter the appropriate report filters and options.
    1. We recommend using the current date for the As Of Date, selecting Mask Sensitive Data and Format: Excel.
  3. Generate the report.
  4. Open the report and review the Employee Tab, filtering the State column (I) for KY, OH and PA and confirming a Code is present in the School District Code column (AP).
  5. For any EE's in those states that do not have a school district code assigned, confirm if a school district is applicable and assign to the EE.
    1. Navigate to the EE's Tax Information screen and select the Taxable School District field, this will present you with a list of School Districts that may be assigned based on the EE's resident address.
      1. If the field is blank, there are no School Districts applicable to the EE's address.
      2. If there is 1 School District available, this is what you would assign for the EE.
      3. If there is more than 1 School District available you would use the OH Finder or PA Municipal Statistics to locate the correct School District for the EE; unfortunately, KY does not have a similar site and those have to be reviewed individually. Employdrive can assist you with any KY resident EE's if you are unsure of the correct district to assign.
